Don’t Wanna, Can’t Make Me

Eight days later.

"This is Francis Mae Masters and today is September 6th. It's been a while since I've made a video, I think maybe a week, give or take? I'm not totally sure, but I think the last one I made was right after Zan broke into my house drunk and naked." I smile like an idiot into the camera and sigh. "And now he's here naked all the time."

I check the clock on the wall and realize I've been in bed way longer than I should have because my rigidity has lasted way longer than it should have. It's actually painful today, the way my muscles contract and pull tight, the way my legs are so stiff I can't straighten them.

And if I want to avoid another conversation with Zan about the illness he thinks I have, then I need to get out of bed so he has no reason to start one.

"A lot has happened since my last video, which is why I haven't made one in so long. In terms of my symptoms, it's been a good week. Minimal mental or emotional issues, some OCD but that never really goes away. Physical symptoms have been relatively minor and easily controlled by smoking. Rigid and stiff most mornings, a little restless leg and tremors at night, I did fall once, but honestly I'm not sure if that was an issue with balance, or the fact that I was trying to hang my blackout window clings in my darkroom that finally arrived—alone—while standing on empty boxes. Hold on."

I set my phone down and grab my bowl off the nightstand, smile even stupider when I see Zan's bowl—he stole it from me and it’s shaped like a huge hotdog—along with his lighter, blunts, and a bag of the fucked up shit he smokes.

He told me about the nightshade and hemlock, basically had to so I never accidentally smoked his shit, but he didn't really tell me why he smoked it, just that he had to otherwise the “repercussions would be atrocious.” God, I really love him.

I hit my bowl hard, and settle back against the pillows then pick up my phone. "Today I'm pretty fucking stiff. A lot of dystonia, but it's not really surprising because it's been a crazy week. First of all, I took on a big project, massive actually, one that has me super fucking pumped.” I exhale and immediately take another hit. "I'm going to be photographing all of the families here that live on Dragovihk land. Seriously, everyone in all sorts of combinations depicting generations and family ties, a whole group photo, the works."

Even though my vlog is private now, it won't always be, which is why I'm not going to mention anything about the unique part of my project or anything else I've learned since everyone told me their secrets.

I'd rather chew off my own hand than share what they confided in me, and just because no one else sees
